“Freedom”

Freedom

This artist's statement was made October 1, 2001 following the terrorist attacks.

“Some say they are ready to put the acts of terrorism behind them, and that is wonderful that they are in that area of healing. Many, however, are not ready to move on. Many have lost everything. Some have lost a special person… mother, father, spouse, child, sibling, or close friend.

This drawing, “Freedom” is for those whose lives have been permanently changed. Whose healing will take longer than other people. “Freedom” is to help in the process of healing, to focus feelings on the positive, although we will never forget the negative, to go into a mode of transformation from rage and hurt into something a little less inward, to reach out to others, to unite not only as friends and family, but as a country as well. I would like to encourage continuing to talk out of feelings so that we can gain FREEDOM together. United we stand, divided we fall.

This original artwork is intended for the people of America to be used as a tool of healing. The point for me is not any fame or fortune, but to help in the healing process of those who have been permanently changed by the magnitude of terror brought onto our fair country. My hope is that everyone in America who has been affected by this horror will get a chance to be set free once again and taste FREEDOM.”

“Freedom” was completed on September 29, 2001.
