“The Covenant” |
This drawing is based upon the Native American handshake entitled “The
Covenant”. I am a direct descendent of Francis Cooke, who came over to America
on the Mayflower. Correct history will tell the story of how the Native
Americans were very kind to most of the first white settlers here in America;
the settlers from the Mayflower were no different. Native Americans shared with
the settlers on how to grow and harvest food in this new country, how to hunt,
and how to survive. Without their help they would have never made it. This
drawing is to depict the actual covenant between these two groups of people who
became very good friends. My hope in drawing “The Covenant” is to encourage this generation to embrace the giving nature and understanding that the early Americans had for each other.
