“Tears of Afghanistan”
|
This drawing was one of the most emotional and
in depth drawings that I have ever made. So much more information on this
country was made public following the terrorist attacks in New York in 2001. I
felt so deeply for the devastation of this country, for the people who have been
beaten down time and time again. I grieved, as many did, for the women and
children who have been horribly abused and terrorized not only by war but also
by their own countrymen. After researching this country I had decided to draw a
rose in full bloom and to draw each flag that I could find from the past one
hundred years. Each petal is to represent a different flag. Some flags are from
the different governments and some are tribes. “Tears of Afghanistan” is to represent the hardships that Afghanistan has gone though, to show the different government regimes, and to show the instability that war and continued terrorism can do to rip a country apart. I had no words to describe how horrible the atrocities must be, but I did have tears. My thanks to RAWA for suggesting a rose as the flower to represent their country for this drawing.
